Sara Jane Evans MW, The new member of the Gran Orden de Caballesros Del Vino

Sarah Jane Evans MW was made a member of the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino at a ceremony held during the 26th annual dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in London. She is only the fourth woman to become a Caballero in the event's 26-year history, alongside Christina Forner of Marques de Caceres, wine maker Angela Muir MW and Charlotte Hey Editor and Publisher. Sarah Jane has long held a passion for Spain starting with her time in Madrid before studying Classics at university. Having been immersed in Spanish culture, she developed a love for Spanish food and wine, an excellent outlet for which is her role as Associate Editor of BBC Good Food Magazine. She has written a book on Spanish cuisine and another on Seville. Her food and wine credentials make a very long list and are inextricably linked with Spain: previous President of the UK Guild of Food Writers; won the Freixenet prize in the WSET Diploma exam; co-chair with John Radford in the Decanter World Wine Awards for Spanish wines and Sherry; writes the Spanish and Sherry sections in the Hugh Johnson Pocket Wine Guide; her dissertation was on Sherry when she became a Master of Wine 2006 . 'I'm very honoured that the Caballeros have welcomed me so warmly', Sarah Jane said. 'Spain's Sherries and wines are excitingly individual, and it is wonderful to be able to write about them and share them with a wider public', she added. Each year, two new members are invested into the Gran Orden for their exceptional contribution to the promotion of Spanish wines in the UK. Pablo Alvarez, head of iconic Ribera del Duero producer Vega Sicilia, was also made a Caballero at the same event. Amongst other Caballeros are several with Sherry connections. From Spain, Peter Dauthieu, Javier Hidalgo, Mauricio Gonzalez, Luis Caballero and Beltran Domecq; whilst from the U.K are author Julian Jeffs, Michael Hall of Lustau. and Graham Hines, former Director of The Sherry Institute of Spain and Wines from Spain who is currently working with Jerez on the generic campaign in the U.K..
